Director’s Profile: Johnnie To
With a film career spanning over twenty-five years, Johnnie To is one of Hong Kong’s leading directors. Having reached commercial success in the 1980s, To turned to more personal work in the mid-1990s following the creation of film production company Milkyway Image.
In the past decade, To’s stylish action film aesthetic caught on in the west following film festival appearance of his works including, The Mission and Breaking News. Election was in Competition in Cannes in 2005 and won To his third Best Director Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Election 2 was in Official Selection in Cannes the following year. Exiled competed in the 2006 Venice International Film Festival.

Director’s Profile: Wai Ka Fai
Wai began his career working in TVB television network. He quickly became a successful producer, director and screenwriter of serial dramas. Wai has directed and produced over thirty films in his career, including Chow Yun Fat’s, The Peace Hotel.
He is considered the creative head of Milkyway Image and is best known for his frequent collaborations with Johnnie To. Together they have produced and directed films including, Fulltime Killer and Running on Karma. The latter won Wai the Best Film and Best Screenplay Awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards.

Actor’ Profile: Lau Ching Wan (Bun)
Lau Ching Wan has proven himself to be one of Hong Kong’s most versatile actors since the 1990s. He has collaborated continuously with director Johnnie To on many films such as Final Justice, Where a Good Man Goes, and Running out of Time.
He has been the recipient of the coveted Best Actor awards several times—in the Golden Bauhinia Awards in 2000 for Where a Good Man Goes, in 2007 for My Name is Fame, and in the 2007 Hong Kong Film Awards, also for My Name is Fame.
Lau Ching Wan was nominated for Best Actor in this year’s 2008 Hong Kong Film Awards for his seminal role as Inspector Bun in Mad Detective.
Actor’ Profile: Lam Ka Tung (Chi-wai)
A veteran TV actor, Lam has been in the limelight for over a decade with commercial success on screen and in the theatre. Lam was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Andy Lau’s comedy Dance of a Dream. He has also starred on Johnnie To’s multi-award winning Election and Election 2. His latest work with To, Triangle, was in the Official Selection for the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

Andy On’s first leading role was in cult director Tsui Hark’s Black Mask 2: City of Masks. On has since continued to act and honed his extensive martial art skills. He went on to win the Best New Artist Award at the 2004 Hong Kong Film Awards for 'The Kumite'.

Actor’ Profile: Kelly Lin (May / Inspector Lin)
A popular Taiwanese actress and model, Lin starred in Johnnie To’s Full-time Killer in 2001. Ever since she has appeared in a number of To’s films, including the hugely acclaimed Triangle and forthcoming The Sparrow. She recently made her international film debut in Boarding Gate, by the acclaimed French director of Irma Vep, Olivier Assayas—which was an Out of Competition Film in last year’s Cannes Film Festival.
